Could this happen here in New Zealand ?
The F.D.A., Food and Drug Administration of America claim that ear candles are a "Medical Device" and under U.S.A. law a medical device has to have validated scientific evidence to support it's use or claim.
But the F.D.A. without any validated scientific evidence or case studies, medical records ect, claim ear candles are a high risk of skin - hair burns, middle ear damage or bursting a ear drum. That's a bit unfair !
In Canada ear candles are illegal and are also called a "Medical Device", but you can apply for a special licence to do ear candling.
At the same time large department stores are selling ear candles. When someone complains to the government. They just say we are investigating it. It sounds like garden centres in New Zealand opening on Easter Good Friday.
In European countries you have to have a certificate to do any alternative healing and is very expensive and you are tested usually by someone who knows nothing about alternative healing.
Last year I did a demonstration at a natural health college that taught ear candling. I showed them a few tricks and safety things which I didn't mind because the students can now do ear candling a bit more professionally and safer.
In New Zealand ear candling is recognized by the health departments and if it wasn't you wouldn't have Pharmacies or health shops selling ear candles. No government department seems to take any interest in alternative healing which isn't a good thing. People should have a certificate of some sort and follow basic safety guild lines.
